Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur, is a father of a dozen children, making his family tree quite extensive.
Here’s a closer look at his children and co-parenting journey:

Nevada Alexander Musk
Musk and his first wife, Justine Wilson, welcomed their first child, Nevada Alexander, in 2002. Tragically, Nevada passed away at just 10 weeks old due to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). In a 2010 essay for Marie Claire, Wilson recounted the heartbreaking experience, writing, “Nevada went down for a nap, placed on his back as always, and stopped breathing. By the time the paramedics resuscitated him, he had been deprived of oxygen for so long that he was brain-dead.”
Vivian Jenna Wilson and Griffin Musk

Following the loss of their first child, Musk and Wilson had twins, Griffin Musk and Vivian Jenna Wilson, through in vitro fertilization (IVF). In April 2022, Vivian legally changed her name and gender, stating that she no longer wished to be associated with her father. Musk has previously voiced his opinions on gender identity pronouns, referring to them as an “esthetic nightmare” on Twitter.
Kai, Saxon, and Damian Musk

The couple expanded their family further in 2006, welcoming triplet sons—Kai, Saxon, and Damian—again via IVF. However, Musk and Wilson divorced in 2008, two years after the triplets were born.
X AE A-XII Musk

In 2018, Musk began dating Canadian musician Grimes, and in May 2020, they welcomed a son named X AE A-XII. The unique name quickly became a topic of discussion online. Grimes explained on social media that “X” represents “the unknown variable,” while “Æ” is shorthand for “Artificial intelligence” and symbolizes love in several languages. Musk later clarified the pronunciation in an interview, stating, “It’s just X, the letter X. The Æ is pronounced ‘Ash,’ and A-12 refers to my contribution.”
Exa Dark Sideræl Musk

In a 2022 Vanity Fair interview, Grimes revealed that she and Musk had welcomed a daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, in December 2021 via surrogate. Nicknamed “Y,” Exa’s name carries symbolic meanings—”Exa” referencing supercomputing capabilities, “Dark” signifying the unknown, and “Sideræl” representing “deep space time” rather than Earth’s time. The name also serves as a nod to Grimes’ favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel. The birth occurred just months after the couple’s public breakup.
