Elon Musk has revealed a ‘gigantic loophole’ that he says has opened the door for major fraud in government.
Despite continued questions about how much power Elon Musk should be allowed to wield in the US government, the head of the Department of Government Efficiency doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere. With some joking he’s the Vice President instead of JD Vance, others have gone one step further and branded him President Musk. The tech billionaire’s involvement in US affairs is a major point of contention, with someone even hijacking screens at the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development with a NSFW AI video that depicted President Donald Trump sucking Musk’s toes and referred to him as the ‘real’ king.
Musk is dealing with the political and commercial backlash of heading up the DOGE, and in the same interview where he spectacularly claimed half a trillion dollars of fraud is lying in the Social Security system, he’s also gone on to call out the country’s biggest ‘loophole’ when it comes to unnecessary spending.

Explaining to Fox Business’ Larry Kudlow how the DOGE team just ‘follow the money’ and the POTUS’ executive orders, Musk maintains that this brought USAID onto his radar. He called out the amount of money being sent to non-governmental organizations, adding: “This, by the way, is I think one of the biggest sources of fraud in the world.
“Government-funded, non-governmental organizations. This is a gigantic fraud loophole where the government can give money to an NGO, and then there are no controls over that NGO.”
Musk claims that NGOs are given ‘tens of billions’ of dollars, and, referring to them as ‘essentially scams’, vowed to put a stop to them.
Kudlow said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has accepted over 80% of Musk’s recommendations when it comes to making cuts at USAID, praising the world’s richest man as being ‘spot on’.
Others remain unconvinced, with the DOGE awkwardly having to alter the numbers on its own ‘wall of receipts’ due to inaccuracies.
The site remains unchanged since its last update, claiming it’s already saved $105 billion.
He went on to defend the DOGE, concluding: “When we receive criticism, we ask, ‘About what? Which line do you disagree with?’ Every action taken by the DOGE team is shared on the DOGE handle. It’s fully transparent, line by line.”
Musk’s vendetta continues, and in the fiscal year 2023, USAID oversaw around $40 billion in appropriations. This is said to be less than 1% of the federal budget.
Now, Rubio has axed 83% of programs funded by USAID and put its 10,000 employees around the globe at risk. Similar to Musk, Rubio defended the move and said: “The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States.”
The cuts continue, with the Inter-American Foundation reporting that its workforce has been slashed from around 48 employees to the ‘statutory minimum’ of just one because of the DOGE.
Whether it can be proven that NGOs are a loophole or not, Musk’s chainsaw crusade against them shows no sign of letting up.

On his latest rant against the state of the USA, Elon Musk has spectacularly claimed there’s $500,000,000,000 worth of fraud in the Social Security system.
The world’s richest man has been tasked with cutting some $2 trillion from government spending, and while he originally admitted he didn’t think it could be done, that hasn’t stopped him from gutting whole departments.
Musk being deep in the trenches of the White House has caused plenty of controversy, and as well as Tesla stocks crashing, he’s lost a jaw-dropping $29 billion in a single day.
Still, Musk told Fox Business’ Larry Kudlow that he’s going to continue doing what he’s doing.

In an all-encompassing interview, Musk suggested that a ‘coordinated’ cyberattack against X came from Ukraine, spoke out about reports of a gun being fired at a Tesla dealership in Oregon, and then fired his own shots at the entire Social Security system.
In one of the biggest takeaways, there are concerns that Musk is now taking his sharpened scissors to Medicare and Social Security. It comes as the Trump administration wants to make a $4.7 trillion tax cut.
Musk told Kudlow: “Most of the federal spending is in entitlements, so that’s the big one to eliminate. That’s the sort of half-trillion, maybe six, seven hundred billion a year.”
He went on to say: “That’s also a mechanism by which the Democrats attract and retain illegal immigrants, by essentially paying them to come here, and then turning them into voters.”
Claiming that the Democrats are so upset by Musk’s work with the Department of Government Efficiency, he thinks turning off this ‘money magnet’ will cause them to leave.
Referring to this half a trillion, Kudlow said: “It’s a huge number.”
It’s important to note that Musk doesn’t point to any specific statistics, nor has it been clarified where he plucked the figure from.
Musk’s estimates are far higher than those put forward by the Social Security’s inspector general, who previously highlighted $71.8 billion in potential fraudulent payments from the 2015 to 2022 fiscal years. This works out at under 1% of total benefits paid during that time.
This isn’t the first time Musk has been questioned about his potential interference with Social Security.
He posted on X in February 2025 and said: “Having tens of millions of people marked in Social Security as ‘ALIVE’ when they are definitely dead is a HUGE problem.”
His claims were debunked by Lee Dudek, Social Security’s acting commissioner, who added: “The reported data are people in our records with a Social Security number who do not have a date of death associated with their record. These individuals are not necessarily receiving benefits.”
Sharing his concerns about what comes next, Rhode Island Democratic Representative Gabe Amo wrote: “Co-President Musk announces his desire to cut entitlements. To be very clear, the only things he could be talking about are Social Security and Medicare.”
While the POTUS has vowed to protect Social Security, Musk has already closed some offices and spectacularly referred to it as “the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.”

Elon Musk looked emotional after being asked about his other businesses in a recent interview with Fox Business following the biggest drop in Tesla stock since 2020.
He might be the richest man in the world, but if Elon Musk keeps losing money at the rate he is, it might not be that way for much longer. Although Forbes’ live billionaire list puts Musk at over $100 billion richer than Jeff Bezos in second place, his net worth has tumbled ever since President Donald Trump stepped into the White House.
While Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris saw the world’s richest get richer, it seems it was only a temporary boost for Mr. Musk.
By embedding himself in the White House and taking a new role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Musk has become more divisive than ever. Crashing Tesla stocks have led to Musk being $116 billion poorer than his peak wealth, with concerns about what happens next.

Speaking to Fox Business in the aftermath of losing $18 billion in a single day, a visibly deflated Musk got candid about his current financial situation.
When asked about how he’s running his other business, Musk is lost for words and says: “With great difficulty.”
Fox’s Larry Kudlow asks whether there’s any turning back now, with Musk adding: “I’m just here trying to make the government more efficient, eliminate waste and fraud. So far, we’re making good progress.”
The mention of his other business ventures losing more money than usual has clearly struck a chord with Musk, but for now, there’s no sign of him stepping back from the DOGE.
According to Business Insider, the financials could be even worse. The site points to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index and claims Musk’s net worth dipped to $301 billion on Monday evening (March 10). Considering he was worth $330 billion on March 9, it’s a jaw-dropping $29 billion in a single day – marking a 6.7% total drop.
It was apparently triggered by Tesla‘s stock dropping by 15% on March 10, giving it the biggest single-day drop since September 2020.
Looking at the bigger picture, Tesla stock is down 55% from its December 2024 peak, while Musk’s net worth is down by $132 billion (30%) in 2025.
We’ve seen Tesla cars and facilities attacked by angry people, while some Tesla owners have even taken to defacing their own vehicles.
There wasn’t much sympathy for Musk’s latest loss, with one person responding to the clip of him, writing: “‘All his businesses?’ Nah! He’s just throwing one business—that’s publicly traded—under the bus! The rest of his businesses remain insulated and are still flourishing—being granted billions of dollars in government contracts.”
Another joked: “He did Nazi that coming.”
Someone else concluded: “A rare moment of reality as he begins to suspect that most people actually hate him. It won’t last though, it never does. The delusions will be back in full swing soon enough.”
For now, Musk is continuing his endeavours to trim the fat from federal spending as the POTUS’ very own ‘First Buddy’.

Senator Mark Kelly has issued a scathing response to Elon Musk’s comment labeling him a ‘traitor’ following a visit to Ukraine.
It looks like Elon Musk could do with a hand making friends, and after branding ESA astronaut Andreas Morgensen an ‘idiot’, the world’s richest man has now painted a target on Senator Mark Kelly‘s back. The Democrat and former US navy pilot has come under fire from Musk after he visited Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian officials and wounded service members.
Kelly is the Democrat senator for Arizona, making his third visit to the Ukrainian capital since 2023 in early March. This didn’t sit well with Musk, and in the aftermath of a disastrous White House visit from President Volodymyr Zelensky, tensions are running high.
Musk notably called Zelensky ‘evil’ and claimed the President was looking for a ‘forever war’.
Posting on X following his latest visit, Kelly said: “What I saw proved to me we can’t give up on the Ukrainian people.”

He goes against what President Donald Trump is currently pushing for, with Kelly calling for security guarantees in any peace deal that’s agreed: “Everyone wants this war to end, but any agreement has to protect Ukraine’s security and can’t be a giveaway to Putin.”
Kelly then called Russian President Vladimir Putin a ‘war criminal’, saying he regularly targets hospitals: “If Putin gains ground, he won’t agree to a ceasefire and will eventually threaten a NATO ally, and this puts American troops and the American people at risk.”
Although Kelly goes on to explain why it’s ‘important’ that we stand with Ukraine, it seems not everyone agrees. Responding to the post, Musk simply replied: “You are a traitor.”
It didn’t take Kelly long to fire back his own barbs, also replying on X as he said: “Elon, if you don’t understand that defending freedom is a basic tenet of what makes America great and keeps us safe, maybe you should leave it to those of us who do.”
Kelly doubled down on his beef with Musk, telling reporters on Capitol Hill: “He’s slashed and burned the federal government to make room for a giant tax cut for billionaires like himself. I’ve sworn an oath to this country, I’ve flown in combat, I served in the Navy for 25 years.
“It appears to me the oath that Elon Musk stands by is the oath to billionaires to make their lives easier, not the American people, not veterans. He’s not a serious guy. He should go back to building rockets.”
This isn’t the first time Kelly and Musk have had a difference in opinion. Kelly and his twin brother, Scott, are both retired astronauts and were less than impressed about Musk’s attack on Morgensen. At the time, the senator wrote: “Hey @ElonMusk, when you finally get the nerve to climb into a rocket ship, come talk to the three of us.”
We’re sure it won’t be long until Musk response to Kelly’s jibe about the tech mogul sticking to making rockets.

There has seemingly been another twist near the end of the tale of the stranded astronauts, as Butch Wilmore has claimed that he ‘believes’ Elon Musk’s claims that they were ‘abandoned’ by the Biden administration, adding that Musk is ‘absolutely factual’.
Williams and Wilmore have been ‘stranded’ upon the International Space Station (ISS) since June 2024, after what was supposed to be just an eight-day mission has now stretched over eight months and continues on.
At the heart of their delayed stay are issues with multiple spacecraft, as not only did their Boeing Starliner have faults but the SpaceX Crew-10 Dragon spacecraft that was scheduled to allow them to come back home has also experienced technical difficulties.

NASA protocol indicates that there must be a handover process for astronauts leaving the ISS, and subsequently the pair haven’t been able to return home because a new crew hasn’t yet been able to reach the station.
There have been multiple health concerns surrounding the stranded astronauts, as their ‘gaunt’ appearance worried many online and they themselves have expressed fears about their bodies upon returning to Earth.
However, shortly after he officially returned to presidency Donald Trump ordered SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to ‘go get’ Williams and Wilmore, indicating that they had been ‘abandoned’ by the previous Biden administration.
Musk himself has repeatedly reaffirmed these claims, indicating in a recent post on X that “the real issue is that [the Biden administration] did not want positive press for someone who supported Trump. That’s it. End of story.”
In a recent appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience, Musk also insinuated that the Biden administration was “extremely antagonistic” towards him and that their return “was pushed back for political reasons.”
While many, due to the information available regarding the technical issues with the spacecraft, disregarded the accusations made by both Musk and President Trump, Butch Wilmore himself has seemingly offered support to their claims.
As reported by Ars Technica, Wilmore was joined by Williams and Nick Hague in a press conference where, upon being asked whether Musk made an offer to bring them home last year, he had this to say:
“I can only say that Mr. Musk, what he says, is absolutely factual,” adding that he “believes” Musk.
While that might seem quite cut and dry in offering a clear contradiction to the other previous information, it appears to not be as simple as it might initially seem.
Shortly after this bold statement Wilmore added: “We have no information on that, though, whatsoever; what was offered, what was not offered; who it was offered to, how that process went.”

Butch Wilmore has seemingly both confirmed and denied Musk’s accusations regarding the Biden administration (YouTube/NASA Video)
Additionally, earlier on in the press conference he indicated: “From my standpoint, politics is not playing into this at all.”
These clashing statements don’t quite paint the clear picture that some supporters of Trump and Musk are wanting it to be, and instead it reads as if Wilmore is simply expressing his support for the current administration and has no or little information regarding the decision making process behind the scenes.
He did illustrate that politics are a “part of life” and that they are “on board with it” though, adding later on: “I don’t know all those details, and I don’t think any of us really can give you the answer that maybe that you would be hoping for.”
